in the news...

I've settled into a nice routine here already - I get up early (emphasis on early), work on the blog, Skype with my family and run in the hotel's fitness room that overlooks the pools.  It's as if I'm again a 30-something with just work to think about.

Yesterday, Al Jazeera news was on the TV above the treadmills.  I must tell you that in the 45-ish minutes I was running and watching the news, I saw news from more countries than I have in my whole life in the U.S.  Paraguay, Thailand, Philippines, China, India, Central America, Canada, France, UK, Syria, Egypt and US.  A stunning array of countries was represented in this short snippet of news.  The range of topics was also comprehensive - weather, politics, culture, government, human interest.  I haven't been able to get over the fact that  none (that's right, none) of the Western news outlets even begin to approach such an informed world view.  Sheela, a team member from India, said she has noticed the same thing and that Indian news channels are not nearly as diverse.

So, I am compelled to ask:  who is the insular society?  Certainly it's not anyone watching Al Jazeera.  #ibmcsc uae
